CIO/Programme Manager

Wales Intl is a Kuwait based company specialising in civil engineering and intelligent transport systems.

I am in charge of ensuring that appropriate systems are developed to support the company and its clients.

  • Accountable for a budget of £20 million and for dealing with risks/issues/opportunities.
  • Managed Invitation to tender (ITT)/ Request for Proposals (RFP)
  • Represent senior executives at team meetings and provide support and feedback.
  • Managed feasibility study (£12 million) for an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). Responsible for liaising with key suppliers and the department of transport, airport authority, public transport and for ensuring that Kuwait was ready to build a multi modal fully integrated transport system.
  • Ensured that appropriate UK construction companies were found to sign ‘agency agreements’ with my employer to secure construction contracts in excess of £100 million.
  • Developed project management processes and tools to capture, prioritise and manage requirements.
  • Reduced costs for Global IT supply chain by implementing web-based procurement solution and streamlining supply chain process.
  • Created project specifications, plans, budgets, schedules and operational policies and procedures, including business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Procured and delivered appropriate IT systems (£8 million) to meet the requirements for the above projects ensuring that the system was both scalable and ‘future proof’ to accommodate any additional products and services that Wales International might need to undertake.
  • Projects completed include ITS feasibility, WAN network remediation, Local ‘In house’Data Centre migration to outsourced cloud based Data Centre including data storage, Migration of Symposium Call Center Server – ( v. 4.2 ) to Contact Center Manager Server 5 and reconfiguration and assessment of options, Avaya call pilot unified messaging rollout, Migration from Google Apps to Microsoft Office 365 (Microsoft Managed Cloud based product included Exchange Email, PC to PC calling, Video Conferencing, team collaboration sites, SharePoint Intranet supporting up to 300 sites and other enhancements), Cadweb project collaboration and document management SAAS rollout.

Senior Project Manager

The Environment Agency is the public body that looks after the environment and ensures that we can leave a better environment for future generations.

I was responsible for providing expertise for transformational projects that needed ‘turn around’ due to difficulties during ‘business as usual’ and ‘Special projects’.

  • Planned and initiated a vision of an enterprise wide mobile IT strategy delivering applications worth in excess of £3 million.
  • Managed investigation into Oracle irecruitment module for internal/external applicants and won acceptance of new solution proposal for a tactical fix.
  • A new national induction process adopted following consultations and submissions I made to the HR team.
  • Saved £800K by terminating a project, deliverable by alternative means and by transforming process for enterprise adoption of mobile handhelds.
  • Redesigned process for new starters that improved the delivery lifecycle process.

MIDLAND SERVICE STATIONS, Birmingham, UK                                    January 2007 – June 2008

Programme Manager

Midland Service Stations is a £12M retail/service organisation with 4 locations.

I Evaluated IT systems, identified areas for improvement and managed improvement project.

I also planned and managed technology projects.

·         Evaluated technologies and negotiated purchase of new tank and pump management system, CCTV with integrated EPOS, and web-based financial systems.

·         Integrated new systems with MS Exchange, data storage, and automatic backup systems.

·         Facilitated 10% increase in sales and 50% reduction in shrinkage.

·         Security system facility reduced break-ins by 80%, with projected savings of £400,000 in first 3 years.

ALANDICK & CO., LTD., Cheltenham, UK                                January 2005 – September 2006

Head of IT

AlanDick is a £330 million global communications infrastructure provider. I directed all IT operations and supervised staff of 70 and administered £10-15 million budget.

  • Introduced ITIL as the service management & Prince2 as the project management office (PMO) framework and chaired a steering committee to improve related technical performance and service levels.
  • Saved $3 million by migrating all sites to BT-based global MPLS VPN.
  • Arranged and managed key projects in areas such as infrastructure development, rectification and improvement, Full ITIL Service desk procurement and implementation including Bangladesh Service Desk, Citrix Farm and Presentation Server 4.0 migration Project ,Citrix farm migration, Exchange migration, Microsoft SharePoint collaboration portal Procurement & implementation, Cheltenham HQ cabling, MS Live communications, Watchguard firewall & intersite VPNs, Remote access solution incorporating Active Cards and VPNs, Hyperion Data Warehousing Project & the ERP Hardware & Software refresh programme to IFS 2003 & IBM PSeries.
  • Improved profitability by re-organising IT operations as added-value contributor instead of cost centre.
  • Introduced a “money saving ideas site”, that was rolled out within the global IT function & accepted by the Global supply chain Director as a means of capturing global savings across all departments and presence within countries
  • Supplier management & consolidation remained a priority during my tenure that allowed us to successfully save substantial amounts of finance and create partnerships rather than creating supplier/client relationships
  • Authorisation and control of all supplier invoices and compilation of financial budgets

Managing Consultant

Riverleaf Ltd was an IT consultancy providing advice and assistance to deliver IT systems that delivered value for money and a lower total cost of ownership for selected clients.

I recommended and implemented IT solutions for clients that improved performance and efficiency.

Selected engagements included:

  • Directed rollout for XP migration across the South West and South Wales within a budget of £1.3 million.
  • Managed rollout of desktop migration on behalf of Orange from Windows NT4 to XP Professional and Exchange/Outlook 2000. Urgent replacement for departed Project leader.
  • Migrating Laptops/Desktops from Lotus 4.5 to 5.0 ensuring existing data and settings are kept.
